Maumelle Diamond Alumni Signs With Central Baptist College

Yesterday, in front of her family and friends, Maumelle High School senior Renae Barr proudly signed a letter of intent to play softball and volleyball next year at Central Baptist College in Conway, Ark. Barr is a three-year volleyball letterman and a four-year softball letterman, having played her first year for Oak Grove High School. Barr started the last three years as a catcher in softball, and promises to be a huge asset to this year's team as well. She helped the volleyball team through her leadership and dedication over the last three years as well. She is a manager for the wrestling team. According to her Maumelle High coach, Jayme McCoy, “Renae is a leader not only on the court and field, but in the classroom as well.”

Congrats Renae!!!

    Consistant Coaching

The Maumelle Softball Recreational League is an integral and imprtant part of the Maumelle Diamonds Tournament Team program. During the REC league, all Diamond tournament players will be split up among the REC leage teams evenly.

For our program to work properly, we ask our REC league coaches to teach the same proven techniques consistantly across all the teams.

The Maumelle Softball Association has chosen Sue Enquist and Mike Candrea, two of the most successful college fastpitch softball coaches to base our coaching from. Enjoy a couple of YOUTUBE lessons from the best:

Check our FAQ page to see how to become a Diamond tournament player.

The  11-time NCAA champion Sue Enquist UCLA girls fastpitch coach describes the concepts the MSA coaches want to consistently teach.
Players should mimic the hitting lessons and strategies that are consistently taught at the High School and College levels.

Sue Enquist is a former UCLA softball player and coach.

    • She helped lead UCLA to its first national softball championship in the 1978 Women's College World Series and became UCLA's first All-American softball player.
    • Her career batting average of .401 was the UCLA team record for 24 years.
    • In 18 years as the co-head coach and sole head coach at UCLA, Enquist compiled a record of 887–175–1.[5] Her career winning percentage of .835 is the highest recorded by any of the college softball coaches with 800 career wins.
    • During her years as a player and coach at UCLA, her team won 11 national championships in 1978, 1982, 1984, 1985, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1999, 2003 and 2004.
    • Enquist has been honored with inductions into the International Women's Sports Hall of Fame in 2008, National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2006, the UCLA Hall of Fame in 1993, and the Capistrano Unified School District Hall of Fame in 2000.

Under Mike Candrea, the University of Arizona softball team has become one of the top programs in the U.S. and a perennial powerhouse in the NCAA. Candrea has coached at Arizona since 1986, where he has garnered over 1100 NCAA wins, along with nine Pac-10 conference titles. Candrea also has ten Pac-10 coach of the year awards. The Arizona softball team has won eight NCAA Women's College World Series titles, in 1991, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2006, and 2007, all under Coach Candrea (NCAA Softball Championship). The team appeared in the NCAA Women's College World Series 16 consecutive years, from 1988 to 2003, and again from 2005 to 2010 - 22 appearances, all coming in the last 23 seasons. In addition, UA has appeared in 12 National Championship title games, including eight consecutive appearances, from 1991 and 1998 (NCAA Softball Championship). UA has most recently appeared in the 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007 and 2010 National Championship games. Under Candrea at UA, the number of National Championship title game appearances is second only to UCLA.
